How to Preserve Bugs?

Freeze the specimen immediately

Place it in 70% ethanol for wet preservation

Use isopropyl alcohol for temporary storage

Keep soft-bodied insects in ethanol

Pin larger, hard-bodied insects through the thorax

Spread and dry butterfly and moth wings

Store pinned specimens in airtight insect boxes

Add silica gel to reduce moisture

Label each specimen with date, location, and collector

Handle specimens with forceps or soft brushes

Avoid direct sunlight and heat

Protect from mold, pests, and dust

Check storage containers regularly

Replace damaged labels and dried preservative as needed
