Practice abstinence or mutual monogamy with an HIV-negative partner

Use sterile injection equipment every time
Take PrEP if you are at ongoing risk of HIV exposure

Prevent mother-to-child transmission with HIV testing and treatment during pregnancy, delivery, and breastfeeding
Use antiretroviral treatment if HIV-positive to reduce transmission risk
Avoid sharing razors, toothbrushes, or other items that may have blood on them
Seek prompt medical care after sexual assault or possible exposure
Follow harm-reduction programs if you use injectable drugs
Educate yourself and others about HIV prevention and safer sex practices
