Wash your hands before handling the tampon
Unwrap the tampon and check the string is secure
Choose a comfortable position, such as sitting on the toilet or standing with one leg raised
Relax your pelvic muscles
Hold the tampon at the base or with the applicator if it has one
Gently insert the tampon into the vagina, aiming slightly toward your lower back
Push it in until it feels comfortable and the string hangs outside the body
If using an applicator, press the inner tube to release the tampon, then remove the applicator
If you feel discomfort, remove it and try again with a new tampon
Change the tampon every 4 to 8 hours
Use the lowest absorbency that works for your flow
Do not leave a tampon in for more than 8 hours
Wash your hands before and after removal
To remove it, gently pull the string until the tampon comes out
Wrap used tampons in toilet paper and throw them in the trash
Do not flush tampons
Seek medical help if you have severe pain, fever, rash, dizziness, or a foul smell while using a tampon
