Park on a level surface and let the vehicle cool
Gather the correct wrench or socket, drain pan, gloves, and rags
Locate the drain plug
Position the drain pan under the plug
Clean around the plug to prevent dirt from entering
Turn the plug counterclockwise to loosen it
Remove it by hand once it is loose
Let the fluid drain completely
Inspect the plug and washer or gasket
Reinstall or replace the washer or gasket if needed
Thread the plug back in by hand first
Tighten the plug securely without over-tightening
