Wash your hands
Remove the suppository from its wrapper
If needed, moisten the tip with a little water or apply a water-based lubricant
Lie on your side with the top knee bent, or stand with one foot raised
Gently separate the buttocks
Insert the suppository pointed end first into the rectum
Push it in about 1 inch for adults, or as directed for children
Stay lying down for a few minutes
Try to hold it in for as long as possible
Wash your hands again
