Place the measuring cylinder on a flat, level surface
Pour the liquid into the cylinder
Wait until the liquid is still
Keep your eyes level with the liquid surface
Read the bottom of the meniscus for clear liquids
Read the top of the meniscus for opaque liquids if required
Note the scale marking that matches the liquid level
Record the volume in milliliters or the unit shown on the cylinder
