Remove the drain stopper or strainer
Clean out any debris around the drain
Insert a drain wrench or drain key into the crossbars
Turn the drain counterclockwise to loosen it
Use pliers or a screwdriver if the drain has slots or screws
Apply penetrating oil if the drain is stuck
Heat the drain area slightly if needed
Continue turning until the drain lifts out
Remove any old plumber’s putty or sealant
Clean the drain opening before installing a new drain
