Wash your hands and the area with soap and warm water
Apply a warm compress for 10 to 15 minutes
Gently exfoliate the area with a soft washcloth or mild scrub
Stop shaving or waxing the area until it heals
Use clean tweezers or a sterile needle only if the hair tip is visible above the skin
Gently lift the hair out without digging into the skin
Do not squeeze, pick, or cut deeply into the skin
Apply an antiseptic or over-the-counter antibiotic ointment if needed
Keep the area clean and dry
Wear loose clothing to reduce irritation
Seek medical care if there is severe pain, swelling, pus, spreading redness, or repeated ingrown hairs
