Use over-the-counter ear drops to soften wax
Use mineral oil, baby oil, glycerin, or hydrogen peroxide drops if appropriate
Tilt your head and let the drops sit for a few minutes
Flush the ear gently with warm water using a bulb syringe
Let water drain out by tilting your head
Dry the outer ear with a clean towel
Repeat for a few days if needed
Stop if you feel pain, dizziness, or worsening hearing
Do not use cotton swabs inside the ear canal
Do not use sharp objects or ear candles
See a doctor if you have ear pain, discharge, fever, a history of ear surgery, a perforated eardrum, or severe hearing loss
