Use a few drops of mineral oil, baby oil, glycerin, or over-the-counter ear drops to soften wax
Tilt your head and let the drops sit in the ear for a few minutes
Gently rinse the outer ear with warm water using a bulb syringe if needed
Dry the outer ear with a clean towel
Let ear wax come out naturally if it is not causing symptoms
Do not use cotton swabs, hairpins, or other objects inside the ear
Do not use ear candles
See a doctor if you have ear pain, hearing loss, dizziness, drainage, or frequent wax buildup
See a doctor for removal if you have a perforated eardrum, ear tubes, or a history of ear surgery
