Wear long sleeves, long pants, gloves, and closed-toe shoes
Pull poison ivy out by the roots when the soil is moist
Use a shovel or trowel to remove the entire root system
Place removed plants in a sealed plastic bag
Dispose of the bag in the trash
Do not compost poison ivy
Wash tools, gloves, and shoes with soap and water after use
Wash exposed skin with soap and cool water as soon as possible
Launder clothing separately in hot water
Apply herbicide labeled for poison ivy if needed
Reapply herbicide according to the product label
Cut vines at the base and remove them carefully from trees or structures
Monitor the area for regrowth and remove new shoots promptly
