Open Instagram
Go to your profile
Tap the menu icon
Select Settings and privacy
Tap Messages and story replies
Open Show activity status
Turn off Show activity status
Turn off Read receipts if the option is available
Use Airplane Mode before opening messages
Read the message while offline
Close Instagram completely before turning Airplane Mode off
Use notifications to preview messages without opening them
Restrict the sender to limit message read indicators
Use a secondary account to view messages if needed
