Gather supplies: drop cloths, painter’s tape, putty knife, sponge, spray bottle, bucket, warm water, wallpaper remover, scoring tool, scraper
Turn off power to outlets and switches on the wall
Remove wall plates and cover nearby surfaces
Protect floors with drop cloths
Test a corner or seam to see if the wallpaper peels off dry
If it peels, pull it off slowly at a low angle
If it does not peel, score the wallpaper lightly
Mix warm water with wallpaper remover or use plain warm water
Spray or sponge the wall in sections
Let the solution soak into the wallpaper
Scrape the wallpaper off with a putty knife or scraper
Rewet stubborn areas and repeat
Remove leftover adhesive with warm water and a sponge
Wipe the wall clean
Let the wall dry completely
Patch any damaged spots with filler
Sand smooth if needed
Prime the wall before painting or applying new wallpaper
