Remove all drawers, hardware, and any detachable parts
Clean the dresser thoroughly with soap and water or a degreaser
Let all surfaces dry completely
Lightly sand all surfaces to remove the old finish and create adhesion
Wipe away all dust with a tack cloth or damp microfiber cloth
Fill dents, holes, or scratches with wood filler
Sand the filled areas smooth after they dry
Apply painter’s tape to any areas you want to protect
Apply a primer suitable for the dresser material
Let the primer dry fully
Lightly sand the primed surface if needed
Wipe away sanding dust
Apply the first coat of paint with a brush, roller, or sprayer
Let the first coat dry completely
Apply additional thin coats until the coverage is even
Let the final coat cure according to the paint instructions
Reattach the hardware and drawers
Apply a clear protective topcoat if desired
Allow the dresser to fully cure before heavy use
