Turn off the circuit breaker for the outlet
Verify the power is off with a voltage tester
Remove the outlet cover plate
Unscrew the GFCI outlet from the electrical box
Pull the outlet out gently
Take a photo or label the wires before disconnecting them
Loosen the terminal screws or release the backstab connections
Disconnect the wires from the old GFCI outlet
Connect the wires to the new GFCI outlet
Attach the hot wire to the brass terminal
Attach the neutral wire to the silver terminal
Attach the ground wire to the green terminal
Tighten all terminal screws securely
Place the wires back into the box carefully
Screw the new GFCI outlet into the electrical box
Reinstall the cover plate
Turn the circuit breaker back on
Press the test button on the GFCI outlet
Press the reset button on the GFCI outlet
Confirm the outlet is working properly
