How To Replace A GFCI Outlet?

Turn off the circuit breaker for the outlet

Verify power is off with a voltage tester

Remove the outlet cover plate

Unscrew the GFCI outlet from the electrical box

Pull the outlet out gently

Take a photo or note the wire connections

Disconnect the wires from the old GFCI outlet

Connect the wires to the new GFCI outlet

Attach the black hot wire to the brass terminal

Attach the white neutral wire to the silver terminal

Attach the ground wire to the green terminal

Reconnect any line and load wires to the correct terminals

Secure the outlet back into the box

Reinstall the cover plate

Turn the breaker back on

Press the test and reset buttons to confirm proper operation
