How To Replace Transmission Fluid?

Check the owner’s manual for the correct transmission fluid type and service interval

Park on a level surface and let the engine cool

Set the parking brake and chock the wheels

Raise the vehicle safely if needed and support it with jack stands

Locate the transmission drain plug or pan

Place a drain pan under the transmission

Remove the drain plug or loosen the pan bolts to drain the fluid

Remove the transmission pan if required

Clean the pan and magnet

Replace the transmission filter if applicable

Install a new pan gasket if needed

Reinstall the pan and tighten bolts to the specified torque

Reinstall and tighten the drain plug if used

Lower the vehicle if it was raised

Add the correct amount of new transmission fluid through the dipstick tube or fill port

Start the engine and shift through all gears

Check the fluid level with the engine running and adjust as needed

Inspect for leaks

Dispose of used transmission fluid properly
