How to Root Roses from Cuttings?

Choose a healthy, disease-free rose stem

Cut a 6 to 8 inch section from a stem that has finished blooming

Make the bottom cut just below a leaf node

Remove the flower, buds, and lower leaves

Keep only 2 to 3 leaves at the top

Lightly scrape the bottom inch of the stem

Dip the cut end in rooting hormone

Fill a pot with moist, well-draining potting mix

Make a hole in the soil with a pencil or stick

Insert the cutting into the hole

Firm the soil around the cutting

Water the cutting lightly

Cover the pot with a clear plastic bag or dome

Place the cutting in bright, indirect light

Keep the soil consistently moist, not soggy

Remove the cover briefly each day for air circulation

Wait several weeks for roots to form

Check for new growth as a sign of rooting

Transplant the cutting once roots are well developed
