Use fine-tipped tweezers or a tick removal tool
Grasp the tick as close to the skin’s surface as possible
Pull upward with steady, even pressure
Do not twist, jerk, squeeze, or crush the tick
If mouthparts break off, remove them with tweezers if possible
Clean the bite area and your hands with soap and water or rubbing alcohol
Dispose of the tick by placing it in alcohol, sealing it in a bag, or flushing it
Monitor the bite site for rash, fever, or other symptoms
Seek medical care if you cannot remove the tick completely or if symptoms develop
