Open your Google Doc
Click Tools
Click Word count
View the word count in the pop-up
Check the box for Display word count while typing if you want it shown continuously
Use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+C on Windows or Command+Shift+C on Mac
On mobile, tap the three-dot menu and look for Word count if available
