Crack the egg on a flat surface
Split the shell into two halves
Hold the egg over a bowl
Let the white fall into the bowl
Pass the yolk back and forth between the shell halves
Keep the yolk intact
Stop when only the yolk remains in one shell half
Place the yolk in a separate bowl if needed
Use an egg separator if preferred
Make sure no yolk gets into the whites
