Attach the reel to the rod seat
Thread the fishing line through each guide from the reel to the tip
Secure the line to the reel spool
Spool the line onto the reel evenly
Tie on a hook, lure, or bait rig
Add a sinker or float if needed
Adjust the drag on the reel
Check that all knots are tight
Test the rod and reel for smooth line movement
