Start in neutral with the clutch pulled in
Press the shift lever down to select first gear
Release the clutch slowly while rolling on a little throttle
Upshift by rolling off the throttle slightly
Pull the clutch in smoothly
Lift the shift lever up one gear
Release the clutch smoothly while adding throttle
Repeat for each higher gear
Downshift by rolling off the throttle
Pull the clutch in smoothly
Press the shift lever down one gear
Release the clutch smoothly
Match engine speed when downshifting
Keep your left foot ready on the shifter
Keep your right hand steady on the throttle
Shift at appropriate RPM for your bike and conditions
Use the clutch for every shift unless your bike and technique allow clutchless shifting
Come to a stop by downshifting through the gears or pulling in the clutch and selecting neutral
Practice in a safe, open area first
