Confirm the cheque is allowed to be endorsed to another person by your bank
Write the recipient’s name on the back of the cheque if required by your bank
Sign your name on the back of the cheque exactly as it appears on the front
Add “Pay to the order of [recipient’s full name]” if your bank requires a restrictive endorsement
Include any additional information your bank requires, such as account number or “For deposit only”
Hand the endorsed cheque to the person you are signing it over to
Ask the recipient to check with their bank before depositing or cashing it
Do not sign over a cheque if the bank or cheque issuer does not allow third-party endorsements
