How To Ski?

Get ski boots and bindings fitted correctly

Wear a helmet and use ski goggles

Wear warm, moisture-wicking layers and waterproof outerwear

Choose appropriate skis and poles for your height and ability

Start on a beginner slope with smooth, wide terrain

Learn the basic stance: knees bent, hips forward, skis parallel, chest facing downhill

Practice stopping using the snowplow (wedge) with skis in a V shape

Control speed by increasing or decreasing the wedge angle

Learn to turn by shifting weight slightly and using the wedge to guide direction

Practice turning basics: initiate the turn, maintain wedge, then return skis toward parallel

Learn to use the downhill ski more by keeping more weight on it during turns

Keep your upper body facing downhill while your legs guide the skis

Practice getting up safely after falls using a controlled technique for your terrain

Learn how to use chairlifts or tow lifts safely and follow posted instructions

Avoid traffic and give others space; look uphill and downhill before moving

Progress to gentle blues only after you can stop confidently and turn smoothly on greens

Practice parallel skiing basics gradually: reduce wedge width as control improves

Keep skis flat and stable; avoid twisting from the shoulders

Maintain balance over the skis and avoid leaning backward

Stop regularly to rest and reassess technique and comfort

Take lessons from a qualified instructor for faster, safer improvement
