Bring the water to a boil
Wash the broccoli
Cut the broccoli into evenly sized florets
Place the broccoli in the steamer basket
Put the basket over the boiling water
Cover with a lid
Steam for 4 to 6 minutes for crisp-tender broccoli
Steam for 7 to 9 minutes for softer broccoli
Check doneness with a fork
Remove the broccoli from the steamer
Season and serve immediately
