Trim the stem ends of the Brussels sprouts
Remove any yellow or damaged outer leaves
Rinse the sprouts under cold water
Cut larger sprouts in half for even cooking
Add 1 to 2 inches of water to a pot
Place a steamer basket in the pot
Bring the water to a boil
Add the Brussels sprouts to the steamer basket
Cover the pot with a lid
Steam for 5 to 8 minutes
Check for tenderness with a fork
Remove from heat when tender but still bright green
Season as desired after steaming
