Use a metal colander or sieve over a pot of boiling water
Line the colander with parchment paper, cabbage leaves, or lettuce leaves
Make sure the water does not touch the dumplings
Cover tightly with a lid
Steam over medium heat until cooked through
Use a heatproof plate on top of a small bowl or ramekin inside a pot
Add water to the pot below the plate level
Place dumplings on the plate and cover with a lid
Use a wok with a rack, trivet, or inverted heatproof bowl
Add water below the rack and bring to a simmer
Place dumplings on a heatproof dish above the water
Cover and steam until done
Use a microwave-safe dish with a damp paper towel if needed for a quick method
Add a little water to the dish and cover loosely
Use a foil ball or improvised supports to elevate a plate above simmering water
Keep the dumplings spaced apart so they do not stick together
Check for doneness by ensuring wrappers are translucent and filling is hot
Avoid letting the water boil dry during steaming
