Gently wash the area with lukewarm water only

Change out of wet clothes, swimsuits, or sweaty workout clothes quickly

Use a cold compress on the outside of the vulva for short periods
Avoid douching
Avoid scented pads, tampons, and laundry detergents
Keep the area dry
Avoid sex until the itching improves
Try an over-the-counter antifungal treatment only if you suspect a yeast infection
See a healthcare professional if the itching is severe, lasts more than a few days, or comes with unusual discharge, odor, pain, sores, or burning
