How to Stop a Razor Cut from Bleeding?

Wash your hands

Apply firm, direct pressure with clean gauze or a cloth

Keep pressure on for 5 to 10 minutes without checking

Raise the cut above heart level if possible

Rinse the cut gently with cool water

Clean around the cut with mild soap

Apply a styptic pencil, alum block, or a dab of petroleum jelly if available

Use an adhesive bandage or sterile dressing once bleeding slows

Replace the dressing if it becomes soaked

Seek medical help if bleeding does not stop after 10 to 15 minutes of pressure

Seek medical help if the cut is deep, gaping, or on the face and won’t close

Seek medical help if you feel faint, dizzy, or the bleeding is heavy
