Wash your hands and the area with soap and water
Soak the area in warm water for 10 to 15 minutes to soften the skin
Sterilize a needle and tweezers with rubbing alcohol
Gently open the healed skin over the splinter with the needle
Use the tweezers to grasp and pull out the splinter in the same direction it entered
If the splinter is visible but hard to grip, use the needle to expose more of it first
Clean the area again after removal
Apply antibiotic ointment if desired
Cover with a clean bandage
Seek medical care if the splinter is deep, painful, infected, near the eye, or cannot be removed easily
