Withhold food for 12–24 hours only if your dog is an adult and otherwise healthy
Provide fresh water at all times
Offer small amounts of bland food after the fast
Feed boiled chicken and plain white rice in small portions
Switch back to regular food gradually over several days
Stop giving treats, table scraps, and rich foods
Keep your dog away from garbage, spoiled food, and trash
Make sure your dog is up to date on deworming and parasite prevention
Check for signs of dehydration
Contact a veterinarian if diarrhea lasts more than 24–48 hours
Contact a veterinarian immediately if there is blood, vomiting, weakness, fever, or severe pain
Contact a veterinarian immediately if your dog is a puppy, senior, or has other health problems
Bring a stool sample to the veterinarian if requested
Give medications only if prescribed by a veterinarian
Keep your dog clean and monitor stool frequency and consistency
