Eat bland foods slowly when you can tolerate them
Avoid greasy, spicy, or strong-smelling foods
Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and smoking
Loosen tight clothing
Stay cool and get fresh air
Avoid sudden movement
Rest and avoid strenuous activity
Try ginger tea, ginger candies, or ginger chews
Try peppermint tea or peppermint candy if it helps you
If motion sickness is the cause, look at a fixed point and avoid reading
If you suspect food poisoning, keep drinking small sips of fluids
If you have a prescribed anti-nausea medicine, take it as directed
Seek urgent medical care if you have chest pain, severe abdominal pain, trouble breathing, confusion, a stiff neck, blood in vomit, signs of dehydration, or vomiting that will not stop
Seek medical care if you are pregnant and cannot keep fluids down
Seek medical care if vomiting lasts more than 24 hours or keeps coming back
