Clean and dry the skin around the knee
Cut or prepare athletic tape or kinesiology tape
Slightly bend the knee
Place one anchor strip above the kneecap
Place one anchor strip below the kneecap
Apply a strip from the outside of the knee toward the inside of the kneecap
Apply a second strip from the inside of the knee toward the outside of the kneecap
Keep the kneecap centered while taping
Smooth the tape to remove wrinkles
Check that the tape is snug but not too tight
Move the knee to confirm comfort and circulation
Remove the tape if there is numbness, tingling, or increased pain
