If you have taken high doses or used gabapentin for a long time, taper more slowly
If you have seizure disorder, taper only under medical supervision
If withdrawal symptoms appear, pause the taper or go back to the previous dose and contact your prescriber
Watch for anxiety, insomnia, nausea, sweating, tremor, pain flare, or agitation
Seek urgent help for seizures, severe confusion, chest pain, or suicidal thoughts
Use the exact taper schedule given by your clinician or pharmacist
Keep taking doses at the same times each day during the taper
Do not cut capsules unless a pharmacist or prescriber says it is safe
Do not change the taper if you also take other sedatives without medical advice
