Inability to bear weight or walk
Visible deformity or ankle looks crooked
Rapid swelling
Bruising that appears quickly or spreads widely
Tenderness directly over the bone
Hearing or feeling a snap at the time of injury
Pain that is intense and does not improve with rest
Limited or no ability to move the ankle
Numbness, tingling, or weakness in the foot
Open wound with bone visible
Foot becoming pale, cold, or blue
Pain that worsens with any attempt to stand or move
Symptoms that do not improve over a few days
Need for urgent medical evaluation if a fracture is suspected
