Notice a visible swelling or fullness at the front of the neck
Feel for a lump or enlargement in the area below the Adam’s apple
See whether the neck looks larger on one or both sides
Check if the swelling moves up and down when swallowing
Notice tightness or pressure in the throat
Have trouble swallowing
Have trouble breathing, especially when lying down
Experience hoarseness or voice changes
Feel a sensation of something being stuck in the throat
Notice tenderness or pain in the neck area
Observe a cough not related to a cold
Compare the neck size in a mirror or with photos over time
Get a medical exam if the swelling is new, growing, or persistent
