Grip the football with your fingertips, not your palm
Place your index finger near the tip of the ball
Place your middle finger along the laces
Keep your thumb underneath for support
Hold the ball snugly but not too tightly
Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart
Point your non-throwing shoulder toward your target
Keep your elbow up and aligned with your target
Bring the ball back near your ear or shoulder
Step forward with your front foot
Rotate your hips and shoulders as you throw
Release the ball off your fingertips
Snap your wrist downward at release
Follow through with your throwing arm
Aim to let the ball leave your hand with the nose slightly tilted down
Practice a smooth, quick throwing motion
Practice short throws before moving to longer distances
