Form a loop in the rope
Pass the working end behind the standing part
Bring the working end around and back through the loop
Tighten the knot evenly by pulling both ends
For a figure 8 follow-through, trace the original path with the working end after tying the initial figure 8
Dress the knot neatly before fully tightening
