Lift the toilet seat and locate the mounting bolts at the back of the seat
Check whether the bolt heads are on top of the seat hinges or underneath the bowl
Hold the bolt head steady with a screwdriver if needed
Tighten the nut underneath the bowl with a wrench or pliers
Turn the bolt clockwise until the seat is secure
Tighten both sides evenly
Test the seat for movement
If the bolts spin, remove the caps and use the correct screwdriver or wrench on both sides
Replace worn washers, nuts, or bolts if they will not tighten
Reattach the caps after tightening
Check the seat again after use and retighten if necessary
