How to Transplant a Cactus?

Choose a pot with drainage holes

Use a well-draining cactus mix

Stop watering the cactus a few days before transplanting

Wear thick gloves or use folded newspaper or tongs

Remove the cactus from the old pot carefully

Loosen old soil from the roots gently

Inspect roots and trim any rotten or damaged parts with clean tools

Let the cactus sit dry for a day or two if roots were cut

Place a layer of dry cactus mix in the new pot

Set the cactus at the same depth as before

Fill around the roots with cactus mix

Lightly firm the soil without packing it tightly

Do not water immediately after transplanting

Wait about a week before watering

Place the cactus in bright indirect light at first

Move it back to normal light gradually

Avoid fertilizing right after transplanting

Monitor for signs of stress or rot after transplanting
