Choose the right time to transplant, preferably in early spring or early fall
Water the bamboo thoroughly 1 to 2 days before digging
Prepare the new planting site in advance
Dig a wide trench around the bamboo clump
Lift the root ball carefully to keep as many roots intact as possible
Divide the clump if needed using a sharp spade or saw
Trim damaged roots and canes before replanting
Plant the bamboo at the same depth it was growing before
Backfill with soil and firm it gently around the roots
Water deeply immediately after transplanting
Mulch around the base to retain moisture
Keep the soil consistently moist during the first growing season
Protect the transplanted bamboo from strong sun and wind if needed
Avoid fertilizing until new growth appears
Monitor for transplant shock and remove dead canes as needed
