Clean the outer ear only if instructed by the vet
Use only vet-prescribed ear medication
Give all medications exactly as directed
Keep the ear dry
Prevent the dog from scratching or shaking the head excessively
Use an Elizabethan collar if needed
Monitor for swelling, discharge, odor, pain, or worsening symptoms
Return to the vet if symptoms do not improve
Do not use cotton swabs, alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, or human ear drops unless prescribed
