Rest the ankle and avoid activities that cause pain
Apply ice for 15–20 minutes every 2–3 hours for the first 48 hours
Use an elastic bandage or compression wrap
Elevate the ankle above heart level when possible
Take over-the-counter pain relievers if safe for you
Keep weight off the ankle if walking is painful
Use crutches or a brace if needed
Begin gentle range-of-motion exercises as pain improves
Gradually return to normal activity
Seek medical care if you cannot bear weight, pain is severe, swelling is significant, or symptoms do not improve
