Withhold food for 12–24 hours if your dog is an adult and otherwise healthy
Provide fresh water at all times
Offer small amounts of bland food after fasting, such as boiled chicken and white rice
Feed small, frequent meals for 1–2 days
Switch back to the regular diet gradually
Use a veterinarian-approved probiotic
Keep your dog away from trash, spoiled food, and foreign objects
Monitor for dehydration, vomiting, lethargy, blood in stool, or worsening diarrhea
Contact a veterinarian if diarrhea lasts more than 24–48 hours
Contact a veterinarian immediately if your dog is a puppy, senior, or has other health problems
Contact a veterinarian immediately if there is blood, black stool, severe vomiting, abdominal pain, weakness, or collapse
Do not give human anti-diarrheal medications unless directed by a veterinarian
Bring a stool sample to the veterinarian if requested
