Microsoft Word: select text and apply subscript with Ctrl+= on Windows or Command+= on Mac
Google Docs: select text and choose Format > Text > Subscript
HTML: use the `` tag
LaTeX: use `_` in math mode
Unicode subscript characters: copy and paste if available
Mobile keyboards: use the symbol or formatting menu if supported
