Turn off the power to the disposal
Unplug it or switch off the circuit breaker
Check the sink drain for standing water
Use tongs or pliers to remove visible debris
Insert the disposal wrench into the bottom slot and turn it back and forth
Press the reset button on the bottom of the unit
Run cold water into the sink
Turn the disposal on briefly to test it
If it still jams, repeat the wrench step
Use an Allen wrench if the unit has a hex socket underneath
Avoid using your hands inside the disposal
Do not use chemical drain cleaners
If it remains clogged, call a plumber
