Find the lock’s current combination or set it to the default code
Align the dial or buttons according to the lock’s instructions
Turn the dial left or right to the first number
Pass the first number the required number of times if needed
Stop on the first number
Turn the dial in the opposite direction to the second number
Stop on the second number
Turn the dial again to the third number if there is one
Stop on the final number
Pull the shackle or open the lock after entering the full combination
Close the lock by inserting the shackle back into place
Scramble the dial after locking it
Reset the combination only if the lock is designed to allow it
