Clean the male threads
Hold the fitting with the threads facing you
Wrap the tape clockwise around the threads
Start at the second thread from the end
Overlap each wrap slightly
Use 2 to 4 wraps for most fittings
Press the tape into the threads as you wrap
Tear or cut the tape cleanly
Thread the fitting together by hand first
Tighten with a wrench as needed
Avoid overwrapping
Do not let tape hang over the end of the fitting
Remove old tape before reapplying
Use tape rated for the application
Keep tape away from the first thread opening on female fittings
