How to Use Steri Strips?

Step 1

Wash your hands

Step 2

Clean the wound as directed by a healthcare professional

Step 3

Dry the skin completely

Step 4

Hold the wound edges together if instructed

Step 5

Remove the backing from one Steri-Strip

Step 6

Place the strip across the wound, not along it

Step 7

Apply the first strip near the center of the wound

Step 8

Add more strips about 1/8 to 1/4 inch apart

Step 9

Keep the wound edges aligned

Step 10

Do not pull the strips too tight

Step 11

Leave the strips in place until they fall off on their own

Step 12

Keep the area clean and dry

Step 13

Pat the area dry after washing

Step 14

Do not soak the area in water

Step 15

Do not pick at or remove the strips

Step 16

Contact a healthcare professional if the wound opens, bleeds, becomes red, swollen, warm, or drains pus
